Frequently Asked Questions -
Q: What even is HoneyStars Productions..?
A: It's a label that we (Kasia and Nina) have created to share our collaborative projects under. Mostly it's fanbooks, but in the future we're planning some other neat things to produce and share! Additionally- Nina has her own solo-label that she works under for convention presentations and Magical Girl related projects called Professional Magical Girl Enthusiast. Sometimes HoneyStars and PMGE will 'collab'. Which basically just means that the project is Magical Girl related and that I (Kasia) am lending a hand!

Q: If I apply to one of your projects as an artist, what do I get out of it?
A: All artists who participate in one of our Fan Art Book projects will get a copy of the book and all bundle items shipped to them free of charge for their hard work. In the case of Charity projects this is all they will receive! In the case of For-Profit projects they will also receive a cut of the profits.
Also, all participating artists retain rights to their contributions and are allowed to sell them as prints after the project has ended! We generally prefer that the bonus items are not re-sold in order to keep things exclusive.
Artists are also invited to purchase additional copies for sale in-person at conventions at the cost only of production and shipping!

Q: The profits, you say.. Tell me more about that!
A: The Profits are any money made over the cost of producing the book and extras, shipping the comp copies to artists, and replacing any lost or damaged copies in the short period immediately following the pre-orders.
Kasia and Nina will each take 5% of the profits off of the top for taking the time to manage to project, do all of the ordering, page layout, customer service, and shipping! After that the remaining profits will be divided up and distributed to participating artists. ex - if there are 25 artists who do 1 page each and no extras, then each person will get the same amount. People who contribute multiple pages and/or bundle items will get a proportionate share of the profits.

Q: Are you competent? What are your credentials?
A: Please check out the About page or even the Fanbooks page to form your own opinion on this matter..

Q: What happens if a project ends in the red?
A: We accept that financial responsibility and will still provide what we promised to our artists. If a project ever needed to be cancelled for any reason (has not happened up to this point in either of our organizational careers) we would let artists know exactly what is going on first. Transparency and communication is of utmost importance to us.

Q: Why don't you send rejection mails?/I didn't get into one of your projects and now I'm pissed off/upset!!!
A: We've actually started sending rejection mails in the past few projects because it was a popular request so if you haven't received a mail please contact us and we can let you know where you stand! There's a lot of room for error with e-mail and technology so we decided this was was more clear and concise.
As for being upset.. We understand that- we've been rejected too. From artbooks, from other collaborative projects, from artist alley, and from panel applications. Rejection happens and we hope you'll understand that it's not necessarily a reflection on you personally. It never feels nice to get rejected from something, especially if you're not used to it. Please pour that energy into creating, rather than lashing out at us or at other project coordinators!

Q: I've noticed you have some repeat artists in some of your projects, why is that?
A: Likely because they applied, and we liked their work/working with them before! Running several projects like this is great because you can get to know people, how they work, and things like that. Whenever we have someone we've enjoyed working with in the past apply to a current project we get pretty excited! It's nice to get an applicant that we already know is reliable!

Q: How do you choose artists for your projects?
A: We use a voting/grading system that takes into account style, composition, use of color, and etc.. In the case that we're stuck we'll invite a guest judge who is not otherwise participating in any part of the project to weigh in on the applicants. If you submit a portfolio with unfinished pictures or with lots with no backgrounds it honestly hurts your score. Additionally - submitting a link where it's not apparent what art is yours, or where we have to dig for your art is also unprofessional and frustrating! Please keep that in mind when applying to projects in general. Additionally if you apply to a project and clearly aren't into the series or haven't read any of the posts.. you'll likely be counted out. We're not here to be the fan-police but we've received some very off-topic applications before (sailor moon, ccs, etc.. for MGRP book, no portfolio for LoB book, etc..). So please take the consideration to properly know what you're applying for!

Q: Why do you require Discord now?
A: It's easier to communicate. It minimizes the effect of e-mail issues as well as gives people a place to socialize. Socializing in the project chats is totally optional, but it also centralizes all of the resources in a very neat and concise way and allows for project-wide pings as well as private PMS. We started this recently with MGRP:UNITE and it went really well, so it's something we're going to continue to do!
